Despite the rain, supporters cheered on St Luke’s team in a gripping close match where St Luke’s put up a good fight but were unfortunately defeated by the celebrity team. The final score was, Ex-Arsenal 4 – 2 St Luke’s. Among the celebrities who played there was Ziggy from Big Brother and English Actor and semi-professional footballer, Ralph Little.

St Luke’s team manager on the day was Metroline’s Engineering Training Manager, Mark Hayward who says, ‘I thought it was a superb day and a good competitive game of football. I was more than willing to take part and to me everyone was a winner. 70% of the St Luke’s team didn’t know each other before kick-off and although it was a ropey start, the way we got together was great and everyone in the team was a real credit to St Luke’s.’

We would like to give a special thanks to Middlesex FA for supporting the event and to their referees and lines men for giving up their time on the day. Last year we raised £6,000 and we are hoping to reach a similar target this year. Players are still collecting their sponsorship money for this year’s event.
Kevan Marshall was awarded the man of the match award and was given a £50 gift voucher.
St Luke’s Director of Fundraising, Pam Russell says, ‘It was a brilliant game of football and I would like to thank everyone who played on the day and the spectators for coming along to watch despite the rain and the cold! The money raised will help St Luke’s continue their much needed free end of life care to the community and the support is greatly appreciated.’
