Chhaya Jones will be celebrating her 40th birthday this year and asked her friends and family to donate towards her charity skydive challenge instead of giving her a gift. 2017 also marks the anniversary of the passing of her aunt who was looked after by St Luke’s.

Chhaya says, ‘The skydive is something I have been thinking of doing for a while now. For my 40th birthday I decided rather than have a party and receive presents, I wanted to focus on raising money for four charities instead – one for each decade! I also wanted to do something to mark my 40th and conquer a fear, and the Skydive does this. This year is also the 10th anniversary of when my aunt passed away from cancer and again, it seemed fitting to do something out of the ordinary to raise money in her memory.

One of the charity’s I am supporting is St Luke’s because they supported my aunt when she had cancer. I remember her telling me how she used to enjoy her respite days at the hospice once a week and the care and support provided for her whilst she was fighting the cancer. I helped care for my aunt in her last few weeks and saw the love and care provided by St Luke’s, as well as the support the family received afterwards. It didn’t feel like she was just another patient to the hospice. My aunt passed away on 1 April 2007. I started taking part in the Midnight Walk from 2008, and continued to do so until 2011. I also have other family and friends who have benefited from the wonderful support St Luke’s provides.’
