Situated in the centre of the community it serves, the hospice plays a key part in the provision of palliative care locally. We acknowledge the crucial roles of the other healthcare, social and voluntary organisations in this provision, and will work in partnership with them in providing first rate care to our patients and the people close to them.
Specialist palliative care focuses on:
- the patient's quality of life, which includes good symptom control
- A whole person approach taking into account the patient's past
life experiences and current needs- physical, psychological,
emotional and spritual
- Both the patient and those family and friends who matter the
most to that person
- Respect for patient autonomy, choice, where possible, over
place of care and choice over treatment options
- Care focused on open and sensitive communication, which
extends to patients, informal carers and professional colleagues
