Twenty-four hour specialist care will be provided to all those patients requiring inpatient care and treatments for symptom control, respite or care at the end of life. This will be delivered by specialist doctors and nurses assisted by many other professionals to ensure the very best care is available to the patients and their family and friends. Care and concern will be extended to all those who visit patients whether they be family, carers or friends. The Hospice has the capacity to accommodate up to 12 inpatients. The layout compromises of a four-bedded bay, a two-bedded bay, and six single rooms. Great care and attention has been paid to creating an environment which promotes warmth and comfort for the patient and his/her family in combination with a work place designed to maximise clinical effectiveness. In anticipation of the need for privacy and intimacy there are several interview/quiet rooms for use by patients/families and health care professionals.
Patients have access to physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, social work, a spiritual care coordinator and complementary therapies as appropriate and subject to availability.
It is envisaged that the inpatient and day care populations will integrate at times and to accommodate this, lounge and dining areas are perceived as communal.
For visitors there are ample facilities including unrestricted visiting, access to refreshments, a child's playroom and one overnight accommodation room. Where possible, family and friends will be encouraged to be involved in the care of the patients and should feel free to stay overnight in the patient's room if so desired.
