People work for St Luke's for a variety
of reasons, including the
desire to work in the voluntary sector, or maybe to gain good
experience in palliative care to further
their professional development.
Although working for a charity is in
many ways similar to working
for a
private or public sector employer, there are significant
characteristics of working for a hospice, particularly the involvement
of volunteers at all levels of the Hospice.
Our Charity Shops are a major source of
vital income, and are run by
employed managers, with large teams of volunteers. St Luke's Charity
Shops Ltd is there to create income for the
Hospice, and the 11 shops are run on a very commercial basis, unlike
the hospice operation which is focused on care of those affected by
life threatening diseases. The Hospice is run professionally , with a
proud reputation
for the very highest standards of patient care.
