Kaunas Hospice, Lithuania

St Luke’s is twinned with Kaunas Hospice in Lithuania.The hospice was established in 1993 to care for severely ill and socially abandoned people in the city of Kaunas.It has 45 beds at present.

The hospice treats cancer patients and those who are lonely and homeless as well as people suffering from renal, heart and pulmonary illnesse. It aims to provide the highest possible quality of life for people whose illnesses cannot be cured, striving to meet their physical, psychological and spiritual needs.

Kaunas hospice has been twinned with St Lukes since 2005 and a group of staff visited in 2006.

Staffing

Kaunas chapelThe staff of the hospital consists of the director, director of nursing, two doctors, 14 nurses, seven nursing assistants, two physiotherapists, one social worker, maintenance personnel and volunteers. The priest of the local parish celebrates mass and provides spiritual care,
