Gift Wrappers raise funds despite the snow!

For 7 days leading up to Christmas, staff and volunteers were busy wrapping up Christmas presents in St Ann’s Shopping Centre. Despite the snow and current credit climate, people still shopped and we raised £#3,000. Thank you to all the volunteers that gave up time to help; we know how busy this time of year can be. Whilst mentioning gift wrapping paper we would be grateful to receive more of it! Please leave it in Reception at the Hospice marked for the attention of Kate.

St Luke’s Hospice offers NVQ qualifications for new shop volunteers

Customer service

St Luke’s are offering you a chance to gain NVQ qualifications in Customer Service as a volunteer in Burnt Oak, Harrow and Stanmore.

The qualification will allow St Luke’s shops volunteers to gain valuable customer service skills that they would need in their roles which includes focusing on essential interpersonal skills and the core components of customer service delivery.

The level 2 national vocational qualification (NVQ) in Customer Service is a nationally recognized customer service qualification and St Luke’s are delivering this in partnership with Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.

The Hospice Shops have benefited from much-needed volunteer skill sets that contribute to maintaining hospice services. Already, 8 volunteers have qualified for the NVQ level 2 in Customer Service. Volunteers are required to work in the stockroom and on the shop floor. Responsibilities include serving customers, dealing with customer enquiries, sorting out donations, preparation of donations, steaming of clothes, cleaning and tidying.

Doreen Wolf, Volunteer at Stanmore Shop says, “My manageress, Monika, asked if I would be interested in an NVQ in Customer Service. I didn’t have to ponder for very long because I thought this qualification must be beneficial to me, our many loyal customers and, of course, the other shop volunteers I work with. I would, when qualified, be able to pass on my newly acquired knowledge and skills to them.”

St Luke’s are looking for more shop volunteers, including those who are willing to take up an NVQ qualification in Customer Service. To register your interest, please phone 020 8382 8000, quoting "NVQ10" or send an e-mail.
