St Luke’s Hospice provides elective and planned placements for a variety of health and social care professional students. Within 2016 placements for student nurses, social worker students, apprentice paramedics and medical students have been facilitated at St Luke’s Hospice. The hospice works particularly in close partnership with University of West London, University of Hertfordshire and UCL Medical School.
There are various learning opportunities provided at the hospice across four clinical areas:In Patient Unit, Day Services at the Woodgrange Centre, Community Team and Hospice at Home.
Students are encouraged to be involved in multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, community visits and to attend in-house multi-disciplinary teaching sessions. Mentors support students to achieve their learning objectives. Students have access to the hospice clinical library and to the hospice computer workroom. Students are made aware of the importance of consent, privacy, dignity, compassion and confidentiality within the organisation and delivery of individualised patient centred care.
