Walks from August 2008 to January 2009

As well as the special One Day Walk along the 15 mile Epping Forest Centenary Walk on 21 September, there are monthly "social" walks. The usual guidelines apply, and the details follow:

• Paths may well be very muddy in places, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
• The leader may decide to cancel if the weather is seriously bad. Contact him/her by phone.
• Check for any unplanned Underground track closures. Trains mentioned below were OK when this web page was compiled.
• As usual a £2 donation to St Luke's is requested, which the leader will collect.
• We shall try whenever possible to post any changes on this website.

Saturday 15 November
General Area: Chess Valley/Chorleywood Miles: 8/9 Easy

From Rickmansworth the walk follows the Chess Valley to Chorleywood. Cross the common then back to the Colne Valley and follow the canal tow path back to Rickmansworth. Bring a packed lunch, or there are possibilities in Rickmansworth.
The 09.39 Chiltern line train from Harrow on the Hill to Aylesbury arrives Rickmansworth 09.49.

Sunday 14 December
General Area: Wendover’s Canal and Woods Miles: 6 Easy

The walk begins on the towpath of the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. This is followed by a very gentle climb up into the Wendover Woods on Haddington Hill. No stiles, reasonably mud-free. Should take about 2¾ hours. Lunch possibilities in Wendover.

The Bentley Priory Circular Walk. 4½ miles Easy.
Meeting time: 11 am Meeting Place: Car Park at top of Old Redding, next to The Case is Altered pub.
Turn up for this annual walk that gives a good start to the New Year, regardless of the weather. Meet up with friends old and new. Pub should be open for post-walk refreshments.
