A Special Celebration of Love
Just five hours. That’s the time it took for the entire team at St Luke’s to work together and organise a special wedding for couple Kalesha and Sanchez Dias.
Wednesday morning began like any other but soon changed rapidly as word spread that Sanchez Dias, 26, who was in the In-Patient Unit (IPU) and his girlfriend Kerliche had decided to marry each other. Time was critical.
Staff from IPU, Patient and Family Support Services (PFSS), fundraising, our charity retail shops, and our catering services provider Valeside worked tirelessly to make this wedding happen.
Three gorgeous bridal dresses were brought in from the shops for the bride to choose from. She looked stunning and happy in her dress as the photos show! The strawberry sponge wedding cake was prepared and baked in near record time.
The Fundraising team together with IPU staff arranged for decorations in the ward where Sanchez was, giving it a total uplift in look. Plas-ware, one of our suppliers, also provided us with helium-inflated, festive balloons free of charge within half hour of our getting in touch. Nurses, doctors, and administration staff all contributed to the wedding arrangements. Marriage registrars were quickly arranged at short notice to solemnize the wedding.
You would have thought St Luke’s was a wedding venue!
A small group of friends and family of the bride and groom were in attendance and the entire ceremony was cheerful with Kerliche unable to control her happiness as her dream came true to marry her sweetheart.
Since her marriage day, Kerliche spent every night by Sanchez’s bedside at the IPU.
Wednesday, began like any other day. It isn’t one which will ever be forgotten by all or anyone who helped make it a special day for Kerliche and Sanchez.
