Did you know in 2023/24 our clinical teams supported 2,069 people living with life-limiting illnesses?
Whilst the NHS funds 30% of the total cost of St Luke’s services, without your donations, our nursing teams would not exist.
Our dedicated nurses provide compassionate and dignified care to local people and their families. Whether in our Hospice at Kenton Grange, or in the comfort of their own home, our nurses ensure that each patient and their family experience the care that’s right for them.

Irene, one of the nurses in our Inpatient Unit at Kenton Grange witnesses every day the ‘profound impact that excellent, compassionate end of life care’ has on her patients. Without your support, Irene and the nursing team at St Luke’s Hospice could not make every moment matter for those patients and families they care for. Living with a life-limiting illness can be extremely difficult.
Our nurses are experts in palliative and end of life care. They ‘strive to give individualised care to each patient’ including emotional support, pain relief and comfort. With you by our side sponsoring a nurse, St Luke’s can ensure patients, and their families can cope with life-limiting illnesses, alleviate unwanted symptoms and sit with them to help them understand and decide on the next steps in their treatment.

St Luke’s Hospice is unique, and our nurses are truly special. It costs £199.14 per day for an experienced nurse to provide expert, palliative and end of life care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. In 2023/24, the average length of stay in our Inpatient Unit was 10 days with a nursing cost of £1991.40.

Your generous support can ease the burden of a life-limiting illness
Roger shares: “I’ve lost the ability to communicate in a spoken manner through a stroke and living with Motor Neurone Disease. I find the Inpatient Unit at St Luke’s Hospice empathetic in nature. I find it a place where I’m understood. They know I’m dying. They understand what I fear and what I am facing. Their support for not only me but my extended family is so vital. Somewhere where we are understood. It’s somewhere where I can ask the difficult questions and know the answers will be truthful and given in a mature, realistic form.
St Luke’s has given me so much support. Somewhere I can go and spend time with its wonderful staff. Everybody who works in the organisation goes the extra mile to help people. They ensure you are never alone as you travel along the pathway we all know we must face. All staff act in such a dignified manner. Doctors and nurses ensure the patient is known to all and what their needs are. It’s a very traumatic time for the patient but what a blessing to be in a calm situation where one can have solace.”
