Team Pam set to take on the Midnight Walk!
Inspired by memories of her beautiful mum Pam, who was looked after by St Luke’s before sadly, she died in 2021, Allison is taking on the Midnight Walk, all in aid of our vital services for patients and their families.
Pam was diagnosed with MDS, a type of blood cancer, in October 2020 and received regular blood transfusions to make her feel a bit better. She was referred to St Luke’s by the hospital for palliative care. Pam was supported by Tonya, a specialist nurse who organised equipment, district nurses, urgent prescriptions, at-home care and provided the most sympathetic and practical help to Allison and Pam. Unfortunately, The MDS transformed into Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at the beginning of March 2021. Pam was admitted to St Luke’s on 6th April and received care to make her feel more comfortable until she peacefully died on 9th April.
Allison says: “Four of us are taking part in Midnight Walk in honour of my dear mum Pam. Mum and the family were wonderfully supported and cared for until her peaceful end. Our family will forever be grateful for the care, support, empathy and professionalism shown during this heart-breaking and very difficult time.”
