St Luke’s Hospice – Caring for Harrow and Brent St Luke’s Hospice cares for people approaching the end of their life in Harrow and Brent. We aim to give the people we care for the best possible quality of life, each and every day. Supporting local people and their families is at the heart of what we do – focusing on what matters the most to them is at the centre of our care.
The care we give is free of charge, available to all, and respects the cultures, religions, and beliefs in our richly diverse community. Our care is given with compassion and dignity and involves not just looking after the patient, but also includes supporting the people closest to them.
We receive around 40% of our funding from the NHS and the rest is raised from the amazing generosity of the organisations and people who make our care possible. Our local community is a vital partner in our care, kindly supporting us through their donations and fundraising alongside the dedication of over 800 incredible volunteers who freely give us their time to support the best possible end-of-life care for local people.
Are you an experienced Area Manager or multi-site Retail Manager looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?
This is a role for someone who understands retail first and foremost, but is also motivated by working in a purpose-led environment.
The role
You’ll work closely with Shop Managers across your area, taking ownership of their performance and supporting them to deliver stronger commercial and operational results.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading, coaching and developing Shop Managers, creating clear expectations and accountability.
- Driving sales, Gift Aid, profitability and overall contribution across the area.
- Looking at performance data and quickly identifying commercial opportunities, from stock and pricing through to merchandising, space and customer experience.
- Being highly visible across the shops and building strong relationships with your teams and volunteers.
- Raising operational and visual standards, ensuring shops feel well-presented, cared for and commercially focused.
- Supporting managers to take ownership of their own shops, giving them the tools and confidence to succeed rather than simply stepping in and doing it for them.
- Building a strong volunteering culture and supporting managers to recruit, develop and retain volunteers.
- Supporting recruitment and succession planning, with the opportunity to build a strong network and develop talent across the area.
- Ensuring shops operate safely, effectively and in line with the required policies and standards.
- Working closely with the Head of Retail to deliver the wider Retail Strategy and support the ongoing transformation of the retail operation.
About you
We’re looking for someone with solid retail experience and a strong understanding of commercial retail operations.
You’ll ideally have experience managing multiple sites and developing managers, whether as an Area Manager, Regional Manager or in another senior multi-site role in the charity space or outlet.
You’ll be someone who:
- Is commercially minded and naturally looks for opportunities to improve performance.
- Understands the importance of strong visual and operational standards, even when working within existing budgets and limitations.
- Is confident using data and KPIs to understand performance and hold people accountable.
- Gets the best out of people through coaching, support and clear expectations.
- Is comfortable having honest conversations and managing performance when needed.
- Is hands-on and visible, happy to roll your sleeves up and get involved when required, while still ensuring your Shop Managers remain accountable for their own areas.
- Can balance high expectations with a supportive, collaborative leadership style.
- Is adaptable and comfortable working within an organisation that is on a journey of positive change.
- Has the energy and resilience to make things happen in an environment where there is plenty to do and a real opportunity to make an impact.
