Annual Walk Information Evening

2nd November 2022 - 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Annual Walk 2023 to the Isle of Wight – Saturday 29 April to Tuesday 2 May

Join us on Saturday 29 April as we travel to the Isle of Wight for several days of scenic walking and exploration around the island for our 2023 Annual Walk.

We will stay in HF Holidays’ picturesque Freshwater Bay House, standing atop the island’s classic white cliffs and dominating its namesake bay.  Extensive gardens with direct access to the beach on one side and a path across Tennyson Down to the Needles on the other, make this a location to be envied!

Prices for your 3 night, 4 day stay start from £350 and are inclusive of all aspects of your stay from food to daily travel. Delicious cooked breakfasts, freshly made packed lunches and 3 course evening meals are provided as part of the package, as are your guided walking routes and fabulous company – this really is a trip not to be missed!

A full breakdown of everything included is listed below:

  • Full board (hot breakfast, packed lunch and delicious 3 course dinner)
  • Travel to and from Harrow
  • Your ferry transfer fee
  • Daily transport
  • Full walker support package (including lead walkers, maps and walk guide)

Information evening – find out more

We will be hosting an information evening on Wednesday 2 November from 7pm at Harrow Masonic Lodge to find out more about the walk, meet your fellow walkers (they’re a friendly bunch!) and chat to the events team at the hospice.

Choose your walk

Each day there will be a choice of walking distances to suit your ability:

  • 8-12 miles daily (standard distance)
  • Up to 18 miles daily (long distance)

You will be free to walk at your own pace or join some of our experienced walkers, all of whom are friendly and welcoming.

Parin first joined the Annual Walk in 2021 after his mum received care in the In-Patient Unit and he is now a regular walker. He says:

‘I have met some great friends and I look forward to supporting this wonderful charity over the coming years.’

History

The annual walks (or Lesley’s Walks as they are affectionately known) were organised by our beloved Lesley Dodd for 20 years, starting in 1996, when over one hundred people took part in our inaugural Hadrian’s Wall walk.  Since then, our walkers have covered thousands of miles on long-distance footpaths in all parts of the United Kingdom and beyond, including the West Highland Way, The Cleveland Way and the 2021 Lesley Dodd Memorial Walk along the Coleridge Way.  Along the way they have raised well over a million pounds to support the work of St Luke’s Hospice and forged many lasting friendships.

Some of our supporters enjoy the walking, the countryside and the company of their fellow participants so much that they return to walk and raise funds year after year, but there is also always a friendly welcome for newcomers.  Accommodation and local transport are organised for you; all you have to do is choose your distance, turn up and walk.

Walking Club

Our Walking Club is a great way to train for your challenge, stay fit and meet a group of like-minded individuals. Each walk is led by a friendly volunteer who will guide you on walks covering different terrains and distances.  For details of all upcoming walks, visit www.stlukestrainingwalks.org.uk.
