Contract: Voluntary

Hours of Work: Part-time
Closing Date: 9th October 2023
St Luke’s is a charity providing free care and support to people living in Harrow and Brent during the last phase of their lives. We help our patients to live as well as possible and to make every moment matter, whether that is here at the Hospice or at home, where we provide two-thirds of our care. We help people die with dignity and in the place of their choice. In 2022 we supported over 2,000 patients and their families.
St Luke’s is a special place that is cherished by our local communities. We believe that once someone is told that they are not going to recover from their ill health, every hour of every day becomes precious and must be the best it can be. To make this happen, we listen carefully to understand what matters most to our patients and together, we plan how to meet their needs and those of their families. Each concern becomes our priority. We move quickly to treat symptoms and provide the family with support including 24-hour practical and emotional help so that fears can be allayed, and important conversations held.
Our Inpatient Unit and offices are based in Kenton Grange where the work of our clinical staff is underpinned by finance, fundraising, education, wellbeing, and other teams. Our Wellbeing Team is being enhanced in 2023 and we will be spending time reviewing and strengthening many of the non-clinical services that we offer to our patients. We are supported by almost 500 volunteers who make a hugely valuable contribution across all departments of the Hospice and in our 18 shops. Our aim is to be a caring workplace where we build an environment of continued excellence and empowerment.
This is an exciting time for the organisation. Our new CEO, Lindsey Bennister was appointed in October 2022, and we will be setting out an ambitious new strategy and vision for the Hospice this spring.
The Chair of Trustees will lead the Board and ensure that it works closely and effectively with the Executive Team in the task of setting and implementing the organisation’s direction and strategy.
The ideal applicant will have considerable senior leadership and governance experience and be able to support and lead your fellow trustees and build a strong and effective partnership with the CEO. You will have a passion for end-of-life care, a collaborative working style and be willing and able to devote 3-4 days per month to the role.
