St Luke’s gardeners strike gold at London gardens awards
Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, St Luke’s Hospice’s beautiful gardens have once again won top honours, earning four awards at the 2025 London Gardens Society Hospices Competition.
The gardens at Kenton Grange were recognised with Gold for the Memory Garden and Gold for the Large Garden, along with Silver for Patios and Pots. The team also proudly received the London Hospices Bowl – the top award celebrating excellence across all hospice gardens.
Our gardening coordinator, Jacki Baker, and her husband attended the ceremony at the Guildhall in London to accept the awards on behalf of St Luke’s.
Jacki said she was thrilled with the results and praised the team for their commitment and passion.
“We’re all home-trained and not professional gardeners,” she said. “Many of us have been volunteering here for years, and we all come for our own reasons – some have been supported by the hospice in one way or another – but we love gardening, and we’re very proud of these awards.”
This year’s success continues a long tradition of excellence, with St Luke’s gardens being recognised by the London Gardens Society for at least 25 years.
Lindsey Bennister, St Luke’s chief executive, said: “The gardens are such a special part of St Luke’s – a place of calm, beauty and life. Jacki and our volunteer gardeners put their hearts into everything they do, and we’re so proud of what they’ve achieved. It’s a real team triumph.”
Patients and visitors often tell us that our gardens are one of the things that make St Luke’s so special – peaceful, welcoming, and full of colour. This recognition is a wonderful reflection of the love, care and time our volunteers pour into every plant, bed and pathway throughout the year.
Congratulations to Jacki and every member of our volunteer gardening team for continuing to make St Luke’s bloom.
