St Luke’s welcomes Kingsbury Mandir’s tenth anniversary celebrations
27th August 2024
On Saturday, 24 August, St Luke’s Hospice was honoured to serve as the starting point for the grand procession celebrating the tenth anniversary of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury. A “Mandir” is a Hindu temple, and the event was graced by the presence of the Mandir’s spiritual leader, Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriya Swamiji Maharaj.
The grand procession began at the Hospice’s grounds, symbolising the strong and cherished partnership between St Luke’s and the Mandir. The event featured a stunning display of traditional costumes, music, and dance. The kick-off was joined by the Hospice staff, residents, trustees and friends, including Lord Popat.
The majestic Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band enhanced the celebration with their vibrant performance, ensuring the energy of the event resonated throughout the neighbourhood.
In a significant gesture of support, Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriya Swamiji Maharaj presented a cheque for over £79,000 to St Luke’s Hospice. This amount, raised over the past decade through the Mandir’s dedicated fundraising activities, underscores the Mandir’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Hospice.
Over the years, the Mandir community has provided constant support to St Luke’s Hospice. Starting in 2014, they made a notable donation of £30,000, raised through challenges such as sponsored skydiving and other activities. This substantial contribution was instrumental in supporting our end of life care services.
The Mandir community has also been actively involved in our annual Midnight Walk, the largest fundraising event in Harrow and Brent. In recent years, the Mandir’s Yoga Group has raised thousands for the Hospice by taking part in the event.
St Luke’s Hospice plays a vital role in the community by providing compassionate end of life care and support to those in need, and we are dedicated to continuing this important work. We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and generosity of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury, which has a profound and positive impact on the lives of those we care for.
