Rose takes the plunge and raises £2,400
St Luke’s Hospice healthcare assistant Rose Tallon has taken the plunge with a memorable skydive, raising more than £2,400 so far to support local hospice care.
What an achievement!
Rose has taken the plunge for a cause close to her heart, completing a skydive and raising more than £2,400 so far for St Luke’s.
At 71, Rose stepped well outside her comfort zone to take on the challenge, experiencing a freefall at 140 miles per hour before floating back down to earth beneath her parachute.
It was a brave thing to do, and everyone at St Luke’s is delighted to see Rose achieve something so memorable while raising money to support local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Rose has worked at St Luke’s for the past 11 years as part of the palliative care team, following a career of more than 50 years in nursing, education, health and social care.
Describing the experience of the jump, Rose said:
“I had no time to get my bearings together when I was doing a triple somersault out of the plane, followed by a freefall at 140 miles per hour. It was like dropping out of the sky, then being abruptly pulled back up when the parachute opened. I just had to go with it.
“The wind is a lot stronger up above the clouds. But from there down to solid ground, the feeling was absolutely, tearfully breathtaking – swinging around with the parachute and taking in the peaceful, colourful atmosphere around and below me.
“Would I do it again? That’s a definite NO! But it was a once-in-a-lifetime challenge for a good cause.
“It’s not too late to continue donating to my challenge for St Luke’s Hospice. However big or small. Your donations are very much appreciated.”
Rose has already raised more than £2,400 towards her £3,000 target, thanks to the support of almost 100 people.
