Ashwin’s big heart fuels Starlight Walk
Thanks to Ashwin Raithatha, every year St Luke’s Starlight Walk is powered by fresh fruit — all donated by him.
Ashwin owns Videorama Pan Centre in Kenton, which celebrates an incredible 39 years this month.
And for many of those years, he’s been a loyal and generous supporter of St Luke’s biggest fundraising event.
But Ashwin’s support goes far beyond donations. He is a strong advocate for St Luke’s and often encourages others to reach out when they need help.
Just recently, a friend was unsure about hospice care for a relative. Ashwin gently explained the difference it could make — and the family were so glad they made the choice.
“You can’t get better service,” Ashwin says. “When you have your last few days of your life — it’s the best place to be.”
Ashwin has seen loved ones cared for by St Luke’s, and that personal experience has inspired his long-standing support.
Each year, he sources and pays for all the fruit handed out to walkers during the Starlight Walk — a generous gift that keeps hundreds of people going through the night.
And when our water sponsor dropped out last year, Ashwin quietly stepped in again — covering the full cost so that no one went without.
“Rather than having celebration for us, it’s better to give it to the cause,” he says, choosing to mark his shop’s anniversary not with a party, but with kindness.
Ashwin never asks for thanks. But we are proud to say it — loud and clear.
Thank you, Ashwin. Your generosity, your belief in hospice care, and your big-hearted support mean the world to us — and to every family we help.
If you’d like to take part in this year’s Starlight Walk (formerly known as the Midnight Walk), sign up today and walk in honour, in memory, and in hope – just like Ashwin.
