Caring for people in Harrow and Brent

Irish generosity helps St Luke’s support local people

From charity events to collection tins in local pubs, Irish supporters across Harrow and Brent are helping St Luke’s Hospice continue its work caring for local families

With St Patrick’s Day upon us, many people in Harrow and Brent find their thoughts turning to Ireland.

St Luke’s is supported by people from many backgrounds, and at this time of year we take the opportunity to thank our Irish supporters who help the hospice throughout the year, often quietly but always generously.

Local organisations, businesses, church groups and pubs support St Luke’s through fundraising events and collection tins, helping ensure people in Harrow and Brent can receive hospice care when they need it.

Over the past year, events including the London Irish Vintage Club (LIVC) Charity Vintage Day and a Kilhan Construction fundraiser have raised vital funds for St Luke’s. The LIVC day raised £15,000 and Kilhan Construction’s event raised £26,500.

Major events like these make a huge impact. But alongside them are the quieter efforts that happen all year round. Collection tins on counters and small fundraising nights in local pubs steadily raise vital funds for St Luke’s.

One familiar supporter is Frosty’s Bar, just across the road from Kenton Grange, where staff regularly host events and keep a St Luke’s collection tin on the counter.

For the staff there, the support is deeply personal.

Dee says: “I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work that St Luke’s Hospice does. Ten years ago this April, the love of my life passed away there. The care he received was out of this world. Myself and the kids became part of the St Luke’s family while he was there, and even for two months afterwards they phoned me regularly to make sure we were all okay. That meant everything to us. Even to this day, they still feel like family. That is why I will always help and support St Luke’s in any way I can.”

Marion says: “The service St Luke’s provides to families is second to none. They don’t just care for the patient — they care for everyone around them. The compassion, respect and kindness they show during the hardest times is something truly special. They give so much to families when they need it most, and they deserve our support in return.”

Liz says: “I have seen firsthand how much people need proper end of life care. It is heartbreaking watching a loved one go through it. But St Luke’s provide comfort and dignity to the person in their care, and just as importantly, to their family. The love and care they give is unbelievable. It brings reassurance and peace during an incredibly difficult time. That is why they will always be my first choice charity.”

We are grateful to everyone who supports St Luke’s and helps us care for local people and their families.
